Interesting thread. Great comments from all. I agree with sir82 that born-ins are raised in a very small world and are very sheltered, protected and isolated. Many of them never have any thought of becoming educated or doing anything with their life other than what they are told to do at the KH.

Some stay FOR the control?
by SearchingForMe ini have been wondering lately...do some stay in the borg for the control?.
let me expand that question.
do some currently in the disorganization stay specifically for the sense of control it gives them over others(mate, children, family, friends) and the way it lets them have perceived control of others?.

Have you hit your 50's? Are you feeling it, or do you still feel young?
by restrangled ini'm curious, because in my 40's i felt like a million dollars.
i am starting to feel it,....i just don't have the stamina of working in the yard all day, coming in making dinner and getting the laundry done at the same time, or working full time.. i see the years in my face when i don't get enough sleep, and no amount of makeup makes a difference.
my eyes seem to always look tired.

I'm 53. I don't have the stamina anymore to go, go, go for 13-14 hours a day. I don't think I could work 12 hour shifts anymore. I also look pretty bad when I don't get enough sleep and makeup doesn't cover it up. I've never tended to be thin but it is very hard for me to lose weight now. I think my hair is probably completely gray but I keep it colored and I don't think about it. I have it done at the beauty salon and sometimes I have highlights added. It's my little splurge and I feel younger.
Just from observing other people including my mother-in-law, I believe exercise is the key to keeping your body and mind young. I need to get started.

Which poster would you like to have a beer (or Pepsi for the sober peeps) with? Why?
by serenitynow! ini've lurking for months, and have enjoyed the various personalities on the board.
i'm pretty sure that i've seen this topic done on an old thread, but i don't want to get my buddy asilentone all riled up by performing a resurrection.
minimus- cause he is funny.

I would love to have a beer or a sweet iced tea with anybody on here. But especially the following: asilentone, mouthy, Mrs. Jones, megaflower, the flippers, Quandry, Outaservice, mindmelda, and AllTimeJeff and Snakes in the Tower.

Your "Best Thread" Suggestion for a Newbie to Read
by cameo-d inthinking about when you were a lurker, or when you first started to post...what were the topics that made the greatest impression on you toward realizing the lies, manipulation, and hipocracy of the watchtower?
what information found here sealed the deal for you that your suspicions had been correct?
is there a thread that really opened your eyes?.

I agree with Found Sheep. That was what I was looking for and needed too. I had not believed in anything the JWs taught in decades. My issues were emotional wounds not doctrine.

The control that the Cult maintains over its members is amazing especially here in 2010.

New Here - My First Rambling.
by SearchingForMe innewbie, born-in, 30+ yrs, still trying to decide what i believe since all my options are now open...i can say i no longer feel the need to follow men.... i've lurked here for quite a while and enjoyed the ramblings of many, so since i'm now a member here are some of my ramblings.. it makes me sad that so many people will continue to do something just because they feel they have too much time and/or energy invested to stop and make a course correction, even if they see it's leading nowhere or to an undesirable end.
it also saddens me how some people are so preprogrammed to follow what others say that they feel extremely uncomfortable changing their views, deep seated or not, even when presented with uncontrovertable evidence that their views are at best unproven, and at worst simply not possible or even plausible.. but i also realize, that just like in the sci-fi fantasy world of the matrix, some sheeple just are not mentally prepared to leave their fantasy world.
it works for them, and who am i to tell them how they should live.
